Young girls In India are pushed by their families enduring economic hardships to marry at a young age. India has the largest number of brides in the world – one-third of the global total. Early and forced marriage leads girls to have children earlier and more children over their lifetime, increasing economic burden on the household.
This film follows Khushbo, a survivor of early and forced marriage.
Though illegal in India, the practice still continues. The effects are crippling for the victims, who are not emotionally or physically ready for marriage or children. Without adequate execution of the laws, the government fails to protect the most vulnerable and poorest girls.
