We're SARO - the South Asia Regional Office of IPPF

IPPF South Asia Regional Office (SARO) is one of the six regional networks of International Planned Parenthood Federation. The staff at SARO is based in New Delhi, India. In the region, we work in seven countries – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka through the Member Associations (MA) -- IPPF accredited organizations-- and collaborative partners.

About IPPF

IPPF is a global healthcare provider and a leading advocate of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for all. Led by a courageous and determined group of women, IPPF was founded in 1952 at the Third International Planned Parenthood Conference. Today, we are a movement of 120 autonomous members with a presence in over 146 countries.

Our work is wide-ranging, including comprehensive sex education, provision of contraceptive, safe abortion, and maternal care and responding to humanitarian crisis. We pride ourselves on being local through our members and global through our network. At the heart of our mission is the provision of – and advocacy in support of – integrated healthcare to anyone who needs it regardless of race, gender, sex, income, and crucially no matter how remote. Volunteerism is central to our healthcare delivery. It underpins the vital work of our members and their teams, whether through community outreach and distribution of contraceptive care or the regional Youth Action Movements championing change.

About South Asia Region

The South Asian region has its own unique challenges and opportunities. SARO works to overcome these challenges and create opportunities. SARO's goal is to ensure sexual and reproductive health rights of all within South Asia.

We advocate with governments to ensure they fulfil their responsibilities. We work with MAs (Member Associations) to help young people make safer sexual health choices. We stand for the protection of women and girls against reproductive bullying. We support our MAs in providing medical services and counselling to those in need. We along with our volunteers and the MAs work to bring to life our vision: From choice, a world of possibilities.
